Handle failures according to the public status and idempotency contract.
Retry by status #
| HTTP | Action |
|---|---|
| 400 | Correct the request. Do not retry unchanged. |
| 401 / 403 | Correct credentials or policy configuration; do not probe key state. |
| 404 | Stop; treat as non-enumerating not-found. |
| 409 | Resolve the conflict. Do not change payload under the same idempotency key. |
| 429 | Honor Retry-After and reset headers; add jitter. |
| Transient 5xx | Use bounded exponential backoff with jitter. |
